I recently interviewed New Mexico artist Mark Horst on my studio blog, check out his brilliant work. LINK
My desire is for the observer to get in touch with the images, to try and follow their history — and perhaps invite a new, very personal history. After the first impression has been made and buried in files or drawers, and the original tale is no longer available, the observer may discover new gestures showing through, because the image is, in fact, still living, breathing, and happening. The observer may trust in his or her perception and immerse in a dialogue with the tale in the present.

I’m in the process of making a documentary on the classical Indian Dance form, Bharatanatyam. One can hardly believe that such a turbulent history lies behind such an enchanting dance form, one that reveals issues of caste, class and Nationalism. Nevertheless the future holds many interesting things for this form to take it to new heights.
“All my films were made against the desires of the audience because they aim at truth and beauty rather than the spectator’s satisfaction. […] [These days] producers just want to make money, they are like drug peddlers.”~ Andrei Tarkovksy, who would have been 80 years old today.
